There are two types of IC schemes for protection boards. One is a single-stage cascade scheme: one IC monitors the voltage of a series of batteries, and there are as many ICs as the number of series. The advantages of this scheme are that the number of series can be compatible downwards, and it is flexible to use. The charging and discharging current values of the same protection board are the same, but the disadvantages are that there is no line drop protection. There is no overcurrent protection for charging, only high temperature protection without low temperature protection, and the performance is not as stable as the integrated scheme.

Another approach is an integrated solution: a single IC monitors the voltage of multiple battery strings simultaneously, with advantages such as charging overcurrent protection, high and low temperature protection, which is more stable than a single cascaded solution. Disadvantages include using a single number of strings and not being compatible with other strings downwards. The charging current at the same port is smaller than the discharge current - DALI protection board
